Model Looking Out of Window

Boudoir Photography by Chryseis Dawn Patterson

It was Barry Neil Kaufman that said “The way we choose to see the world creates the world we see.”  Perception, a language in itself, is a shadow extending from internal dialogue that shapes the world around us.  We perceive and discern according to the road map of our inner life. For an artistic photographer, perception is the world of the widened lens. For the subject being photographed this is the key to living without fear.

In the world of women, body confidence begins with perception. The astringent standards that many women attempt to adhere to usually end up hurting their true beauty, the vulnerability within them that makes them unique, and they lose self-esteem.

When we set out to dip our toes in the waters of life, we have a preconceived idea of how we should act. We build personas and model them as veneers. When the lens cap comes off, however, there is something so beautiful about the unfolding of a truth from which we cannot run away.

In Boudoir photography, perception plays an integral role in what women believe about themselves and how we fortify our self-worth.  We have discovered that by being emphatic with our boudoir guests as they begin a session they move from feeling vulnerable to a confidence they never thought they possessed.

Boudoir photography is not just a great gift for the one you love, but it is a wonderful gift to give yourself. This gift of sight comes from different eyes that can see the beauty in you that you may have never noticed.
